“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
— Pablo Picasso
Art offers children a language through which they can explore, imagine, express and interpret the world around them. At Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, we seek to nurture this innate creativity by giving students the freedom to experiment, create and develop their own artistic voice.
The role of the teacher is not to prescribe a particular way of creating, but to encourage each child to explore ideas with confidence and curiosity. Through the process of drawing, painting, shaping and making, students experience the joy of transforming lines, forms, textures and colours into meaningful expressions.
Students have opportunities to work with a variety of artistic media, including oil pastels, watercolours, poster colours, acrylics, oils, pen and collage. Specialised workshops provide opportunities to explore diverse art forms and techniques such as terracotta sculpture, lantern making, umbrella painting and linocut.
The school also provides dedicated art spaces where students can develop their skills and experiment with different forms of artistic expression. Their work is showcased through Art & Craft exhibitions held on the school premises, allowing students to celebrate their creativity and share it with the wider school community.
At Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, we believe that every child has a distinctive creative language. Our endeavour is to provide the freedom, encouragement and opportunities through which that language can flourish.
