The performances included dances, a medley of songs, and a story telling session by the school counsellor, where she shared the story of Hellen Keller and her teacher, Ms Anne Sullivan.
The event ended with a speech by the Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas, where she addressed the significance of the day and encouraged students to dream big.

The Awareness Programme on Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities was successfully conducted on Saturday, 24 October 2024, at A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium, University of Kalyani. The event was a joint initiative of Garden High School, IISER Kolkata Campus, Satikanta Guha Foundation, and Different Art Centre (DAC), in collaboration with the Department of Social Justice, Union Government.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. T. K. Gopalan (CEO, Satikanta Guha Foundation), Mr. Gopinath Muthukad (Founder, DAC), Professor Ashwani Tiwari (Dean, International Relation and Outreach Activities, IISER Kolkata Campus), Mrs. Mahua Dasgupta (Secretary, Garden High School, Kasba), and Mrs. Ratna Biswas (Principal, Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus).
The keynote attraction was the magic show by Mr. Gopinath Muthukad, renowned magician and motivational speaker. Through his captivating performance, Mr. Muthukad conveyed a powerful message about collaboration, connection, and empowerment of individuals with disabilities. The event was attended by students, teachers and parents and it fostered a sense of empathy and understanding towards differently abled people. It inspired the audience to break social barriers and promote inclusion.
This unique programme demonstrated the potential of collaborative efforts in bringing about positive change in the society.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organised an Inter-House Football Tournament for girls and boys from classes 3 to 5 on Friday, 18th October 2024.
Four matches were played during the event. The first two matches were played for the winner’s position. In the final matches between Oak House and Chinar House for category girls and Chinar House and Cedar House for category boys, Oak House and Chinar House secured victories, respectively.
The last two matches were played between Palm and Cedar House, category girls, and Palm and Oak House, category boys, for the third position. In both categories, Palm House won the match, defeating Cedar House and Oak House, respectively.
The matches demonstrated the players’ hard work and dedication.

The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony and Variety Programme of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus was held on Saturday, 5 October, 2024.
The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and an inspiring speech by the Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas. The variety programme featured a play entitled “Pagla Dasu,” dances, recitations, and a choir performance. The Prize Distribution Ceremony honoured the students’ achievements in the academic session 2023- 2024. This was followed by the vote of thanks.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted an Inter House Football Tournament for boys on Friday, 27 September 2024. Boys from classes 3, 4, and 5 participated in this tournament.
Two matches were held in this tournament. The first match was between Oak House and Cedar House and the second match was between Chinar House and Palm House. Cedar House and Chinar House emerged as the winning teams, respectively, scoring one goal in each match.
Both matches were closely contested, demonstrating the players’ hard work and dedication.

Garden High School, IISER Kolkata Campus, organized an Art Workshop for Classes 3 to 5 on Friday, 27 September 2024, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The workshop focused on mask making and paper collage, encouraging students to explore their creativity.
Guided by teachers, participants designed colorful masks and created unique collages using various materials. The session not only enhanced their artistic skills but also fostered teamwork and imaginative expression.

The event was organized by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Kolkata Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences, Presidency University, Kolkata at the P.C. Mahalonobis Auditorium.

Garden High School, IISER Kolkata Campus, hosted a Capacity Building Workshop on “Environmental Education and Conservation of Natural Resources” on 21 September 2024.
The event, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, was attended by 59 teachers from several CBSE-affiliated schools in and around Nadia.
Ms. Joyita Dutta, Principal of Bishop George Mission School and Mrs. Kamalpreet Kaur, founder Principal of Narula Public School, acted as the resource persons for the workshop.
The workshop explored the need for environmental conservation, the obstacles to achieving it, and methods for raising public awareness. The Sustainable Development Goals were also discussed.
Engaging hands-on activities and games helped deepen the understanding of these concepts, making the workshop an enriching experience for all attendees.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized a Science Workshop on Thursday, 19 September 2024 and Friday, 20 September 2024 in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, for the students of classes 9 and 10.
The interactive talk, conducted by Dr Subhajit Bandopadhyay of IISER, Kolkata, focused mainly on addressing the misconceptions regarding Chemistry, among high school students. It also featured discussions on various topics, including the impact of pressure on a tin can, the movement of water molecules, and the principles of boiling and freezing.
The lecture session was highly informative and inspired students to explore scientific concepts with greater curiosity and understanding.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day on Thursday, 15 August 2024, with great enthusiasm.
The day commenced with the flag hoisting, followed by the national anthem. Students presented a series of performances, including a choir song, a spirited dance to “Rang De Basanti,” and a student playing the mouth organ. Poetic recitations in Hindi and Bengali captivated the audience, while aerobics showcased the students’ energy.
The highlight was the “Swadhinota Medley” dance, which powerfully depicted the struggles of freedom fighters, leaving many viewers in tears. The event, attended by students from classes 3 to 11 and their parents, concluded with an inspiring speech by the Principal.

Fifty-two students from Classes IX and X attended the session, with Dr. Soumya Sarkar serving as the main resource person. He demonstrated how to assess an unconscious person, administer rescue breaths, and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized a Science Seminar on “The Impact of the Indian Space Research on the Common Man” in collaboration with the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, on Friday, 19 July 2024.
Students from classes IX to XII of several schools in and around Kalyani, affiliated under CBSE, ICSE and WBBSE, attended this seminar with their teachers. The attending schools included-
Prof Amitava Gupta, Department of Power Engineering, Jadavpur University graced the event as the honourable speaker of the day. His insightful presentation elaborated on how space research and its advancements have permeated various sectors, significantly improving the quality of life and contributing to national development.
Prof Sivaji Chakraborty, President of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology also delivered an engaging talk that shed light on the significant contributions of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to everyday life and its far-reaching impacts on society.
The programme was live- streamed on YouTube under the guidance of Prof Ranjan Ganguly, fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology.
Overall, the seminar was a resounding success, with the participation of nearly 200 students, providing valuable insights and fostering a deeper appreciation of the impact of space research on everyday life.

Students of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus attended a felicitation programme organized at Kalyani Town Club to honour the outstanding performance of students in the AISSE and AISSCE 2023-2024 examinations. Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an educational visit to the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata on Thursday, 11 July 2024, for the students of Classes IX, X and XI, on the occasion of the institute’s Foundation Day.
Dr. Ramji Singh, the Executive Director of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, graced the occasion as the chief guest, and addressed the students in a speech, emphasizing the significance of curiosity, research, and continuous learning.
Following the speech, the students toured the campus and interacted with various exhibits displayed by several departments. Highlights of the visit included displays from the Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Biological Sciences departments. The exhibits featured hands-on experiments, and interactive models, sparking the students’ interest in different scientific fields.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an educational trip to Bankim Bhaban, Naihati on Tuesday, 9 July 2024 for the students of Class XI.
The students visited the house of Rishi Bankim Chandra, and gathered deeper information about his life. They saw the author’s writing room and several well preserved artefacts including his manuscripts. The students also saw the room where the author was born, and photographs of his family including his descendants, and those of his friends. The curators were highly knowledgeable and shared anecdotes from the author’s life with the students.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted a Capacity Building Programme on “Use of Artificial Intelligence in Classrooms”, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, 6 July 2024.
The resource persons for this workshop were- Mr Surojit Saha, PGT Computer Science, of Purv International School, Durgapur, and Mr Monojit Majii, PGT Computer Science and Information Technology, of Burnpur Riverside School, Burnpur, Asansol. Mrs Ratna Biswas, Principal of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, was the Venue Director for this CBSE programme.

Students from Classes III to V attended the session to learn about protecting themselves from unforeseen harm. The mentor for the session was Ms. Amrita Bhattacharjee, Physical Education teacher at Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus. During the session, Ms. Bhattacharjee demonstrated tactics for overcoming hazardous situations, such as blocking certain attacks. She also educated students on using makeshift weapons like an umbrella to fend off attacks. Overall, the session helped to raise awareness about potential threats and taught students how to avoid danger.

Students of Classes 9–11 were asked to volunteer for the same to exhibit the importance of protecting themselves against unforeseen harm. The mentor for the session was Ms. Amrita Bhattacharjee, teacher of Physical Education at Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus.
Ms. Bhattacharjee demonstrated some tactics how to overcome perilous situations, like blocking an attack or escaping a chokehold. She also educated us on using make-shift weapons like a mobile phone or an umbrella to fend off attacks.
The session proved immensely helpful in making students aware of potential threats and in teaching them the ways to avert danger.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized a Wellness Camp for the students of Class 11 in collaboration with AIIMS, Kalyani on Friday, 28 June 2024.
This health check-up was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine (CMFM), AIIMS, Kalyani. The participating students were briefed about the activities of the day and provided with questionnaires regarding their health status. Their height, weight and blood pressure were also measured.
The students learned about important aspects of healthcare such as the importance of a balanced diet and how to maintain a healthy Body Mass Index.

The students of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated World Music Day and International Yoga Day through a special assembly on Friday, 21 June, 2024.
The event began with a speech by one of our teachers, Ms. Sanchita Chakraborty, who pointed out the role played by music and yoga in bringing harmony into our lives.
Students from Classes 3 to 9 seamlessly integrated music and yoga, demonstrating various yoga postures, including Surya Namaskar and Om Jaba Kusum Shankasan, accompanied by music and poetry. Students of Classes 6 to 10 put up a performance celebrating women empowerment through yoga with poetry recitation. The assembly also featured a short meditation session for all students from Classes 1 to 11.
The programme concluded with a speech by the Principal, followed by the National Anthem.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus was invited to attend the SilverZone Foundation’s Educational Excellence Award and Students’ Felicitation Program 2023–24, on Saturday, 15 June 2024, at India Islamic Cultural Center, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The school coordinator for SilverZone, Ms Gargee Sarkar, represented the school at this event and received the SilverZone Performance Excellence Award on behalf of the institution.
The event was attended by Heads, teachers and students from numerous schools all over India, as well as from neighbouring countries. Mr Sandeep Marwah, Founder-President of the Asian Academy of Film & Television, and Noida Film City, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of Honour.

Students of Classes 3 to 11 of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus participated in an essay writing competition entitled “A living Witness: An Essay through the Eyes of a Tree”, on Thursday, 13 June 2024.
This event was promoted by The Department of School Education Literacy, CBSE, for fostering a deeper connection with nature. It encouraged the children to explore the local environment to identify the oldest existing tree and analyze the tree’s role in the ecosystem, understanding its contribution to biodiversity and habitat preservation.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated Rabindra Jayanti on Wednesday, 8 May 2024 with a vibrant programme. The event, conducted jointly by the teachers and students, included speeches and performances on Tagore’s songs and poetry to pay homage to the Kabiguru.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to Rabindranath Tagore’s enduring legacy, showcasing his profound influence on literature and culture.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted a Capacity Building Programme on “Learning Outcomes and Pedagogies”, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, 20 April 2024.
The resource persons for this workshop were- Mr Manab Kumar Dey, Principal of Mount Litera Zee School, Baharampur, and Mr Debasish Goswami, Senior Teachers’ Coordinator at Satish Chandra Memorial School, Chakdah. Mrs Ratna Biswas, Principal of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, was the Venue Director for this CBSE programme.
51 teachers from different CBSE-affiliated schools attended this session where extensive discussions were held on important aspects of Pedagogical lesson plans such as MLL (Minimum Levels of Learning) and SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound).

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus participated in the Prerana Utsav organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on Monday, 15 April 2024.
The students of classes IX to XII registered on the Prerana Portal to participate in the week-long residential programme. They also expressed their vision for India through essays, paintings and poetry.
Arisha Hasan Shirazee of Class IX and Shreyas Das of Class X were selected for the Prerana Experiential Learning Program that was held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalyani, on Tuesday, 23 April 2024.
Shreyas Das of Class X also qualified for the second level of the programme.

The students of Class 9 of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus participated in a Community Service Programme organized by the school at Charsarati, Kalyani, on Saturday, 13 April 2024.
Accompanied by their teachers the students distributed art materials and food items among 40 underprivileged children under the care of the NGO, ‘Roopkotha Din’. A short cultural programme including a chorus song, a dance performance and a recitation was also put up by the students.
The funds for this noble initiative were arranged by the students themselves, through a Food and Art Festival-cum-Sale that they organized in the school premises.

Students of class VIII and IX of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus participated in a pilot study conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Kalyani on Wednesday 10 April 2024. Varsha Rana and Sweta Majhi, M.Sc nursing students of the institute conducted this pilot study in which the sociodemographic details were filled in by the students of class IX and how to take care of the injuries during sports was demonstrated by the students of class VIII.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus was privileged to host an interaction with the US Consul General, Ms Melinda Pavek, for the students of classes VIII to XII, on the very first day of the new session, 2024-2025, on Friday 5 April 2024.
Ms Pavek was accompanied by Ms. Bobby Hore, Program Manager of the U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata, Ms. Megha Roy Chatterjee, United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), Kolkata, and Mr. Abhijit Sharma, Foreign Service National Investigator.
The Consul General discussed the importance of educational and diplomatic ties between the United States and India. She, along with Ms. Megha Roy Chatterjee, also provided the students valuable insights on the correct ways to pursue higher education in the US.

The students of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus participated in the Universal Postal Union 2024, International Letter Competition organised by Post Office Nadia South Division on Tuesday 2 April 2024.Twenty students from classes VII to IX took part in the competition addressing the subject related to the future of the postal union and service they provide. The competition provided an opportunity to the students to reflect the role of postal service and its future in coming digital world.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus recently conducted a Yoga session for students of classes 1 and 2 on Friday 15 March 2024.
The session began with the traditional Namaskara, followed by a series of standing poses such as Tadasana and Trikonasana. Students then transitioned to sitting poses like Bhujangasana and Cobra Pose. The session ended with Pranayama exercises and guided meditation, promoting relaxation and mental well-being.
