She has also won the bronze medal in the 11th National Open Kyrogi (U-35 Kgs Category) Championship in the TAEKOFEST organized by Bengal Taekwondo Association from 28 December to 30 December 2025.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated Republic Day on 26 January 2026 .The programme began at 9 a.m. with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Principal, Mrs.Ratna Biswas.

As the tricolour unfurled, everyone stood in attention and sang the National Anthem with pride. Students presented patriotic songs, dances and speeches which filled the atmosphere with love for the nation. This was followed by a short speech by our respected Principal Ma’am highlighting the significance of Republic Day. The programme concluded with distribution of sweets. The celebration reminded us of our duties as responsible citizens and strengthened our sense of unity and patriotism.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an Inter-House Football Tournament for the students of classes III to V on Friday, 16 January 2025.

In the Girls’ category, Chinar House emerged as the champions. Oak House secured the second position, followed by Cedar House in third place. Palm House stood fourth.

In the Boys’ category, Cedar House clinched the first position. Chinar House finished as the runner-up, while Palm House achieved third place. Oak House stood fourth.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all four houses and was marked by strong team spirit, and impressive sportsmanship.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus conducted a special assembly on Monday 12 January 2025 to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

The programme included a speech by a student on the life and philosophy of Vivekananda, focusing on his message to the youth and the importance of self-belief and service to humanity. It also included a musical presentation of the Vivekananda Stotram “Murta Maheswarm” by the school choir. The celebration ended with a speech by the Principal Mrs Ratna Biswas, on the significance of Vivekananda’s teachings in our lives.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted a Talk titled ‘Van Gogh Meets Newton: Art in Science’ on Monday, 5 January 2025, by Professor Saptarshi Basu, INAE and KSIIDC, Chair Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru.

This session was organized in collaboration with the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Kolkata Chapter, Satikanta Guha Centre for Culture and Learning and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata.

Teachers and students from Class VIII to Class XI of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus attended the talk. The event was graced by

The honourable speaker for the day, Professor Basu discussed how the pictorial representation of fluid vortices was indistinguishable from paintings like Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’. The lecture was chaired by Professor Debatosh Guha. He also led a Question and Answer session, following the talk.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus conducted a capacity-building programme on ‘National Curriculum Framework, Secondary Education 2023’ organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday, 4 January 2026. The programme witnessed the active participation of 60 teachers from several CBSE-affiliated schools.

The workshop was led by Mrs. Subhashini Chakraborty, Head of the Department, Bholananda National Vidyalaya, Barrackpore, and Mrs. Sutapa Acharya, Principal, Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School, Durgapur.

The sessions focused on the key features of the framework including pedagogical styles to support inclusive education and Indian knowledge systems. The programme also included engaging hands-on activities, during which teachers discussed ideal classroom setups and designed lesson plans in alignment with the NCF-SE.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted its Annual Sports Meet 2025–26 with great enthusiasm and participation from students and staff, on Friday, 19 December 2025.

The day began with the March Past by the four Houses and the taking of the oath by the students. The Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas declared the Sports Meet open.

The Meet featured colourful novelty races for the primary sections and competitive track events including relay races and Tug of War competitions for the senior classes.

There was a themed walk by the pre-primary section and a dance performance by the primary section. The Lezim display, ‘Lathi Khel’ performance, and Karate and Sword display by the students were much appreciated by the spectators.

The day concluded with the staff races and the declaration of the results for the House Championships.

Palm House won the trophy for the Most Disciplined House and Oak House won the trophy for the Best March Past. The trophy for the overall House Champion was won by Cedar House.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus conducted a capacity-building programme organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, 13 December 2025. The programme witnessed the active participation of 50 teachers from several CBSE-affiliated schools.

The workshop was led by Mr Dipankar Ghosh, Senior Academic Coordinator and Head of the Department of English, Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School, Durgapur, and Dr Kingshuk Ghosh, Academic Auditor, G.D. Goenka Public School, Dakshineswar.

The sessions focused on the necessity and advantages of the pedagogical approach of active learning, while also highlighting the limitations of passive learning. The resource persons explained how learning takes place through the processes of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis, and how active learning strategies significantly support these processes. Various active learning strategies were discussed in detail, with special emphasis on maintaining optimum stress levels to ensure maximum learning outcomes.

The programme concluded with an engaging hands-on activity, during which teachers designed lesson plans integrating active learning strategies with 21st-century skills. The workshop proved to be enriching and empowering, equipping teachers with practical tools to enhance classroom teaching and student engagement.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized a two-hour seminar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students of Class VIII to Class XI on Wednesday, 10 December 2025. The session aimed to help students understand the growing influence of AI and its role in everyday life.

The guest speaker, Professor Gautam Basu, Adjunct Professor at IISER Kolkata, delivered an engaging talk on how AI affects our lives and how both children and adults are increasingly dependent on it. He cautioned against excessive reliance on AI and encouraged students and educators to move beyond rote learning and embrace intelligent, analytical learning methods.
He also explained key subsets of AI, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning (such as AlphaFold), and Large Language Models like ChatGPT. He further touched upon the contributions of DeepMind and the significance of CASP 2020.

The seminar was insightful and well-received, providing students with a clearer understanding of AI and its growing impact on society.

A team of students from Classes XI and XII of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, led by Srabanti Maji Mandal Ma’am, participated in the prestigious Humboldt Kolleg Young Scientist Competition held at Presidency University, Kolkata on Tuesday, 9 December 2025. The theme of this year’s competition was “Science for Protecting the Climate and Serving Society.”
The event saw participation from 15 renowned schools across Kolkata, including La Martiniere for Girls, Modern High School for Girls, South Point, DPS Newtown, Apeejay Park Street, RKM Rahara and Narendrapur, Hindu School, Jadavpur Vidyapith, Jodhpur Park Boys, among others. Competing against these leading institutions, our students secured the third position, bringing honour and recognition to the school. The participating students were:

Students from Class VI to Class IX of Garden High School, IISER Kolkata Campus went on a delightful excursion to Purulia from 3 December 2025 to 6 December 2025.

Over the three days, students explored a wide range of scenic and cultural attractions including Kestobazar Dam, Upper and Lower Dam, Sita Kund, Marbel Lake, Bamni Falls, Ayodhya Hill Top, Mayur Pahar, Turga Falls, Pakhi Pahar, Chorida Mask Village, Turga Dam, and Gangkocha Falls. They also witnessed the vibrant and traditional Chhou Dance, which added a rich cultural flavour to the trip.

The excursion offered students an opportunity to appreciate natural landscapes, learn about local art forms, and foster key traits like fellow feeling, empathy, collaboration, adaptability and leadership outside the classroom. The journey was filled with adventure, discovery, and joyful experiences, making it an enriching and memorable outing for all excursionists.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus congratulates the students of Class XI – Bhargav Dhar, Srijan Bhattacharya, Shreyas Das, Ritisha Bhakta, Shinjini Majumder, Tanubha Majumder and Debarshi Nath Sarkar for their participation in the Inter-School Science Fair for Nadia District at Satish Chandra Memorial School, Chakdaha, on 30 November 2025.

The students showcased two innovative projects, ‘Piezopath’ which explores piezoelectric energy harvesting and ‘Quadrisafe’, a bio-sensor to detect the freshness of food. Both of the projects were appreciated by the judges and visitors for their creativity and clarity of presentation. The students were accompanied by their teacher, Mrs Srabanti Maji Mondal.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus conducted its second Hub and Spokes Meeting on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

The meeting was held as a series of two consecutive online sessions which were attended by the counsellors from all the spoke schools,

along with the counsellor, wellness teacher, and senior teacher of the Hub school. The meeting began with an address by the Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas. Ms. Rupal Sorkhel, Psychologist and Student Counsellor at IISER Kolkata, led both sessions.

The first session, “Knowing Yourself and Building Teacher–Student Relationship,” highlighted the importance of self-awareness in teaching. Ms. Sorkhel explained the four inner selves, Guide, Nurturer, Learner, and Human and stressed on understanding personal strengths, biases, and stress signals. She discussed the role of empathy, communication, consistency, and classroom climate in strengthening relationships, and suggested strategies such as check-in routines, active listening, and strength-based feedback. She emphasized that self-aware teachers create safe, motivating learning environments.

The second session, “Addressing Digital Safety Challenges,” focused on key risks students face online, including cyberbullying, screen addiction, unsafe interactions, oversharing, and exposure to harmful content. Teachers were advised to use tools like the Pause for 10 rule, THINK before you post, and STOP → THINK → CHECK → SHARE to guide students. She also discussed AI-related risks and shared real case studies to underline the need for digital awareness and trusted adult support.

The meeting concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Arundhati Basu.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an Organ Donation Awareness Session for students of Classes IX to XII on Monday, 17 November 2025.

Representatives from Barasat Samajik Seba Pratisthan, including the Secretary Mr. Sujan Bhattacharyya, discussed key topics such as organ impairment and the scope of living donation.

Students also learned about the Human Organ Transplantation Act and the roles of NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization) , SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization), and ROTTO (Regional Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization).

The session encouraged informed and responsible decision-making.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized the Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition for all students from Class VI to Class IX. The topic of the competition was: “A Letter to My Role Model”. The school also hosted a special talk on the importance of our Philately Club on Friday, 14 November 2025. It is a club that brings together individuals who share a hobby of collecting stamps and learning about postal history.

The special guests of the programme were – Mr. Biswajit Dutta, Office Assistant in the Philately Branch of India Post; Mr. Biswajit Biswas, Marketing Executive (International Mail) at India Post; Mr. Arpan Basu Chowdhury, Social Media Section, MTS.

It was an interactive session between the guests and the club members. Students shared their experience of collecting stamps and studying about the history of each. Discussions regarding past and future activities of the club were held. The members were given tokens of appreciation on the occasion of Children’s Day. The programme included a dance performance, a Bengali skit, a teacher’s choir, and a vibrant medley of folk dances. As the Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas, was away on Board-related duties, her message was conveyed to the students by Mrs. Sanchita Chakraborty.

The programme concluded with the distribution of token gifts to all students, making the day memorable and enjoyable.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized a Drawing and Painting Competition under Project Veer Gatha 5.0, an initiative of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.

The students from Class III to Class V paid a tribute to the brave soldiers of India through their drawings while students from Class VI to Class VIII celebrated the Gallantry award winners who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The paintings by the students of Class IX and Class XI depicted the indomitable spirit of the warriors of India, including figures such as King Kharavela of Kalinga, Prithviraj Chauhan, Shivaji, heroes of the revolt of 1857 and leaders of tribal uprisings, through their artwork.

The event encouraged students to learn about the courage and sacrifice of India’s heroes and express their understanding through art

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated its Foundation Day on Monday, 3 November 2025, with a cultural programme organized by the teachers.

Mr. T.K Gopalan, CEO of Satikanta Guha Foundation, and Mrs Gopalan graced the occasion with their presence. The Dean of Faculty Affairs and members of the School Management Committee also joined the celebration.

The programme commenced with an  inaugural song and a dance. This was followed by a humorous Bengali play that aimed to spread awareness about environmental conservation. The programme also included a speech by one of the senior faculty members of the school and a medley of folk dances representing the cultural diversity of India.

The celebration ended with a sumptuous lunch organised by the school for all its staff members.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an awareness and training session on Sustainable Menstrual Hygiene Management among Adolescent Girls in collaboration with AIIMS Kalyani, under the aegis of Satikanta Guha Centre for Culture and Learning on Friday, 31 August 2025.

A team of doctors and experts from AIIMS Kalyani, led by Prof. Dr. Rekha Dutt, conducted the session as a project funded by Indian Council of Medical Research and Department of Community Health, AIIMS Kalyani.

They discussed menstrual hygiene, demonstrated the use of menstrual cups and menstrual underwear and addressed common myths and concerns related to menstruation. The interactive session was informative and encouraged open discussion on menstrual health and sustainable practices.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus congratulates the students who participated in the Extempore and Debate Competition organized by IISER Kolkata during Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 on 28 October 2025.

In the Extempore Competition on “Democracy in India,” Srijan Bhattacharya and Shruti Chatterjee won the first and second prizes, respectively. In the Debate on “Social Media Does More Harm Than Good,” Faria Hasan Shirazee, Arisa Hasan Shirazee, and Srija Das secured the first, second and third prizes, respectively.

The event was presided over by Professor Sanjio Zade, Chief Vigilance Officer, IISER Kolkata. Apart from Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, several institutions including MAKAUT also participated in both the competitions.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, under the aegis of Satikanta Guha Centre for Culture and Learning, hosted its first Hub Meeting of Counsellors as an event under the ‘CBSE Hub and Spoke School Model’ on Wednesday, 25 September 2025. The theme of the Meeting was ‘Handling Failures’.

Prof. Anuradha Bhat, Dean of the Wellness and Welfare Wing, IISER Kolkata, along with three clinical psychologists from IISER Kolkata led the first session.

The second session was led by Dr. Sukanto Sarkar, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS Kalyani, and Dr. Kumari Rina, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS Kalyani, along with two resident doctors from their department .

The speakers highlighted how schools often celebrate success while overlooking the role of failure in learning. They discussed the genetic, social and psychological causes of mental health struggles and explained the link between brain development and resilience. The need to move beyond academic appraisal towards a “pedagogy of failure,” alternative grading, and healthy classroom practices was stressed. The session concluded with the message that failure, when addressed constructively, strengthens growth and confidence.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted its Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony and Variety Programme at Ritwik Sadan, Kalyani on Tuesday, 23 September 2025.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a speech by the Principal Mrs. Ratna Biswas.

The programme included a classical medley by the students, comprising an Indian Raag, a Rabindra Sangeet and a Tarana. This was followed by a dance performance and a play titled ‘Sunday Costs Twenty Thousand Rupees’, adapted from Josefina Niggli’s work. The school choir and the student band presented a medley including ‘That’s The Way’ , ‘Hotel California’, and ‘Kagaz Ke Do Pankh Leke’. The programme ended with a dance narrative on the Mahabharat.

The Primary Section of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted ‘Autumnal Celebrations’ on Thursday, 18 September 2025 to mark the beginning of the festival season.

The programme included a choir performance by classes III to V, a dance by Nursery I, and an action song by Nursery II. Students of Class I presented a recitation and a dance performance, while the Preparatory Class presented the popular “Old McDonald Had A Farm”.

The programme also featured a short play on environmental awareness by classes III to V, a fusion dance by Class II, a karate demonstration by classes I and II, a yoga demonstration and a classical dance performance by classes III to V.

The event ended with a speech by the Principal, Mrs Ratna Biswas, highlighting the vibrance of the autumn season.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an Inter-House Singing Competition for students of Classes III to V on Friday, 11 July 2025.

Cedar House emerged as the winner, followed by Palm House in second place, Oak House in third, and Chinar House in fourth.

The students sang heartfelt patriotic songs in Hindi, Bengali, and English, as part of the competition.

Description:

Students from Classes VIII to XII of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus attended the Open Day organized by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata on Friday, 11 July 2025.

Prof. Rajesh Kumble Nayak of IISER Kolkata conducted an insightful session on dark spots on the Sun’s surface, solar storms, and other solar phenomena. He also interacted with students by answering their queries on the topic.

Following the talk, the students participated in a quiz and explored the celestial bodies through telescopes. They also visited the Biology, Physics, and Mathematics laboratories.

The day proved to be highly insightful and engaging for all.

Description:

Under the aegis of Satikanta Guha Centre of Culture and Learning, Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted a ‘Vigyan Pratibha’ Workshop on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.

Students of Class VIII of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus attended four parallel sessions on alternative methods of STEM education in Secondary Level. The workshop also saw active participation by 53 teachers from Kendriya Vidyalayas and other affiliated schools under the State Board.

The four sessions were on Chemical Reactions (Chemistry), Euclid’s Game (Mathematics), Mathematical Neighbouring (Mathematics), and Biodiversity (Biology). These learning units align with the NCERT curriculum and form an important part of STEM education under every board .

Under the observance of the participating teachers, the students performed hands-on activities that allowed not only a better understanding but also application of the learning units for the day.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an Educational Visit, for the students of Class VIII, to the Department of Microbiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Kalyani, on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.

The students visited specialized labs including those of Mycology and Serology to observe the various laboratory equipment. They interacted with doctors and scientists who helped them develop awareness about viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. They also learned about disease detection through antigen-antibody testing, and the sanitation practices that are essential for prevention of diseases. The visit encouraged them to prioritize personal and community health through informed practices.

After a series of competitive matches, Palm House emerged as the winner, followed by Cedar House in second place, Oak House in third, and Chinar House in fourth.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus celebrated World Music Day and International Yoga Day through a special assembly on Friday, 20 June, 2025.
The event opened with speeches by students, highlighting the historical significance of World Music Day and International Yoga Day. This was followed by a musical presentation by the school choir.

Students from Nursery I to Class XII, seamlessly integrated music and yoga, performing Surya Namaskar with Sanskrit chants, followed by a group yoga demonstration, and a synchronized session. Various activities were organized on the theme of International Yoga Day, to engage the different classes. These included an essay writing session for Classes VI and VII, a painting competition for Classes III, IV and V, and a poster making activity for Classes XI and XII.
The students ended their school day with guided meditation.

Description:

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted its Annual Exhibition, “Mindscape”, on Saturday, 14 June 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mrs Mahua Dasgupta, Secretary of Satikanta Guha Foundation, inaugurated the event. 265 students from classes III – XI, guided by teachers, showcased their work by putting up charts, models, and PowerPoint presentations across all subjects including English, Hindi, Bengali, Maths, Science, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Physical Education, Music and Art.

There were lively demonstrations by students who enjoyed themselves while interacting with visitors. Live performances were put up by students in the Music as well as the Physical Education sections. Nursery and Classes I and II displayed their exhibits in a separate room. The event received overwhelming appreciation from visiting parents.

Students from class XII of Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus, visited Tega Industries Kalyani Plant on 14 May 2025 guided by Ms. Sananda Chatterjee.

The visit provided hands on learning experiences on manufacturing and designing of machinery and parts of rubber mill lining at best quality. It is a multinational corporation certified as per ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) covering exports over different parts of the world such as Australia, South Africa, Chile. Students observed how manufacturing plant works gathering valuable experiences and enriching their knowledge through understanding of various policies, programmes and strategies formulated leading to workers welfare and motivating them towards the achievement of desired organisational goal by maintaining the norms as per industrial standards.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus hosted a Capacity Building Programme on Secondary Level Science, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, on Friday, 9 May 2025 and Saturday, 10 May 2025.

The resource persons for this workshop were- Mr Debasish Goswami, Senior Teachers’ Coordinator at Satish Chandra Memorial School, Chakdah, Nadia, and Mrs. Jharna Das of Hariyana Vidyamandir, Kolkata.

60 teachers from different CBSE-affiliated schools registered for this capacity building programme.

The event concluded with an inspiring speech by the Principal, highlighting the relevance of Tagore’s philosophy in today’s world. The celebration was both enriching and memorable.

Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus organized an Inter-House General Knowledge Quiz for Classes 3 to 10 on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, in collaboration with Nutshell GK and Satikanta Guha Centre for Culture & Learning. Students were grouped into three categories: Classes 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 10. Each category had five rounds, with an additional audio round for Classes 9 and 10. Covering topics like Sports, History, Movies, and Science Fiction, the quiz encouraged lateral thinking and was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants.

One of the students highlighted the contributions of the renowned scientist, particularly his achievements in space research, and outlined his pioneering role in drafting NEP 2020. The Principal of the school, Mrs.Ratna Biswas offered flowers at his portrait, honouring his immense contribution to the nation.

The assembly encouraged students to pursue excellence through knowledge and innovation.

Description:

Students of Class 12 from Garden High School IISER Kolkata Campus visited the Paleontology Lab at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata for their Biology Board project on Tuesday, 29 April 2025 and Wednesday, 30 April 2025.

Guided by Dr. Subhronil Mandal, Assistant Professor, Earth Sciences, they observed various fossils and learned about fossil collection techniques. The visit provided valuable insights into paleontological research. Students later submitted detailed project reports based on their observations and learnings during the visit. The experience enriched their understanding of evolutionary biology.

The Principal also highlighted the importance of regular attendance and clarified doubts regarding the Board examination process and schedule, ensuring transparency and preparedness for the academic year.
